Microsoft Edge Gets Wallet Feature In Windows 11

In March, there were reports about Microsoft testing a “cryptocurrency” feature for its Wallet, which will allow users to securely store, send, and receive cryptocurrency funds directly within the Edge browser.

Microsoft Edge Gets Wallet Feature In Windows 11

With the new experimental “Cryptocurrency” feature, the Redmond giant has introduced support for cryptocurrency and transformed its ‘Microsoft Wallet’ into a full-fledged Progressive Web App (PWA) for its latest operating system, Windows 11, according to a new report from Windows Latest.

Previously, the Edge Wallet, a free built-in feature within the Edge browser, allowed users to securely save card details, such as card numbers, expiry dates, and CVV codes, aiding a smoother online shopping experience.

With the integration of a cryptocurrency wallet, Microsoft Edge Wallet users will be able to get real-time updates on cryptocurrency value fluctuations, thanks to the deeper integration with exchange companies. The Wallet will allow users to log all transactions, enabling them to monitor their digital assets effectively.

Other features include an “explore” tab, which will keep users updated with the latest cryptocurrency news. There is also an “assets” tab that will showcase users’ Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). In addition, they will be able to store NFTs with the Wallet.

In Edge Canary, if you visit Edge://wallet, you can install it as a web app by clicking the pop-up in the address bar. The Edge Wallet web app is being tested for users, but you can try it by enabling the command line flag “enable-features=msWalletPWA,” states the Windows Latest report.

Like any other app, Wallet can also be pinned to the taskbar to the Start menu. Since Wallet is an internal page of the Edge browser, the overall experience is smoother than the other web apps. In addition, it is seamlessly embedded within Edge, which removes the need for apps or extensions for managing cryptocurrencies.

Currently, there is no word on when Edge’s Cryptocurrency feature is coming. Stay tuned and keep watching this space for more updates!
