Instagram allows you to post stories for your followers to see within 24 hours.
Stories can include photos and videos with a maximum length of 60 seconds.
There is also a feature called “Add Yours” where you can add a photo or a video based on a topic.
If you want to participate in the trend, you must find and use the template.
Some users might have an error message when they tap on the “Add Yours” option.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix “Couldn’t add to template. Something went wrong. This template is currently unavailable for you to add to” on Instagram Add Yours/Reels.
Why is the Add Yours template not working on Instagram?
The Add Yours template is not working on Instagram because you have a community guideline violation.
If you have a community guideline violation, Instagram can restrict you from using certain features on the app.
According to Instagram, the template may not be available for countries located in Europe.
In addition, you may not be able to use it for certain account types like a private or business account.
Many users reported that they can use the template on their secondary account but not their main account.
This can be caused by a bug/glitch that Instagram has yet to fix.
How to Fix “Couldn’t add to template” on Instagram
To fix “Couldn’t add to template. Something went wrong” on Instagram, you need to first check your Instagram account status.
If you have a community guideline violation, you need to wait for it to expire to use features like “Add Yours” again.
If you don’t have a community guideline violation, you can try switching from a private account to a public account.
You can also try to switch from a business account to a personal account or downloading an older version of Instagram.
Fix 1: Check your Instagram Account Status
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Menu > Settings and privacy > Account status.
- Check if you have a community guideline violation.
- If you have a violation (e.g. Features you can’t use), you may be restricted from using the “Add Yours” template.
- The restriction will be lifted after 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month, and up to 1 year.
Fix 2: Switch to a public account
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Menu > Settings and privacy > Account privacy.
- Disable the “Private account” option.
- Check if you can use the template.
Fix 3: Switch to a personal account
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Menu > Settings and privacy > Business tools and controls.
- Switch account type > Switch to personal account.
- Wait 24 to 48 hours, then check if you can use the template.
Note: If you already have a personal account, try to switch to a business account and wait 24 to 48 hours.
Fix 4: Download an older version of Instagram
- Delete the Instagram app from your Android device.
- Go to instagram.en.uptodown.com/android/versions.
- Select an older version of Instagram.
- Select “Download” to download the APK.
- Open Instagram and log in to your account.
- Check if you can use the template.
Note: This method only works for Android devices.
