How to Fix “This file can’t be downloaded securely” on Microsoft Edge

To fix “This file can’t be downloaded securely” on Microsoft Edge, you need to manually enable insecure content from the site permissions setting.

You can also enable Origin as secure flag or select “Keep anyway” when you’re downloading the file.

Fix 1: Manually enable insecure content

  1. Navigate to the website that’s giving you the error on Edge.
  2. Select the lock icon next to the URL field.
  3. Select “Permissions for this site”.
  4. Change “Insecure content” to allow”.
  5. Try downloading the file again.

Fix 2: Enable Origin as secure flag

  1. Open Edge and type this on the URL field: edge://flags.
  2. Search for “unsafely-treat-insecure-origin-as-secure”.
  3. Change the “Insecure origins treated as secure” flag to “Enabled”.
  4. Select “Restart” to restart Edge.
  5. Try downloading the file again.

Fix 3: Select “Keep anyway”

  1. Download the file that you want to download.
  2. Click on the three dots.
  3. Select “Keep” or “Keep anyway”.
