If Fortnite is under maintenance, you need to wait for 30 minutes to 3 hours for it to complete.

Fix 1: Check the Epic Games Server Status

  • Visit status.epicgames.com and check if all systems are operational.
  • If the status for “Fortnite” is under maintenance, it means that the game is undergoing an update.
  • You can also visit downdetector.com/status/fortnite to check if the game is experiencing downtime.

Fix 2: Wait for the maintenance to complete

  • If Fortnite is undergoing maintenance, you need to wait for it to complete before you can play the game.
  • A maintenance can last between 30 minutes to 3 hours.
  • Check back in intervals of 30 minutes in the Epic Games Launcher to see if the maintenance is complete.

Fix 3: Verify the game files

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and select “Library”.
  2. Click on the three dots next to “Fortnite”.
  3. Select “Manage” followed by “Verify”.
  4. Try launching Fortnite again.

Fix 4: Clear Epic Games cache

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL and open the task manager.
  2. End the task for all Epic Games Launcher processes.
  3. Search for “%localappdata%” using Windows Search.
  4. Open the “EpicGamesLauncher” folder.
  5. Open the “Saved” folder.

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher.
  2. Click on your profile picture and select “Sign Out”.
  3. Log in to your Epic Games account.
  4. Try launching Fortnite again.
